When you need to do more than donate.
***DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, AT THIS TIME WE ARE NOT HOSTING COMMUNITY EVENTS.  We will let our community know the second that changes.

Butterfly Boxes could not do what we do without the generous donations from our supporters.  But sometimes one might feel the need to do more.  Sometimes, getting out into the community and making face-to-face connections feels necessary.  For those looking to give time or a friendly connection, please see below for some ways to get involved.

We are honored to have been chosen as one of PDX Parent Magazine's Top 5 picks for " Best All Ages Volunteering" in the city. We're thrilled that they recognized our efforts to include children in all of our events. From Volunteer Bag Assembly Days to our Monthly Community Potlucks, children are always welcome.

COMMUNITY EVENTS CALENDAR

VOLUNTEER DAYS

One Saturday afternoon a month, we host a volunteer day to check donated bags and pack new bags to go to Catholic Charities of Oregon for delivery.  There are lots of jobs to do, and volunteers of all ages are welcome.  Check the calendar above for our next volunteer day, and sign up for our newsletter to stay in the loop.  You can read about some of our past volunteer days here and here.

MONTHLY COMMUNITY DINNERS

One evening a month, community members new and seasoned are welcome to join Butterfly Boxes and Catholic Charities of Oregon's office of refugee resettlement for a potluck community dinner, at Catholic Charities' office.  These dinners are a chance to make new connections, try new foods, and hear each others' stories.  Please visit the Community Potlucks page for more information, including the many ways we use volunteers, and check the calendar above for the next date.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES

Our partners at Catholic Charities' office of refugee resettlement use community members in many ways - greeting refugee arrivals at the airport, tutoring children new to school in Oregon, helping new families navigate life in Portland and Salem.  Please visit their website for ways to help them directly.  (You can find volunteer opportunities under the How to Help tab.)
